Cyber-Aesthetics in Industrial Design

Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the concept of cyber-aesthetics in industrial design as a new aesthetic approach formed under contemporary technological development. As a result of the integration of digital technologies, artificial intelligence–based design tools, sensor systems, and interactive interfaces into industrial products, the aesthetic nature of design objects is transforming from a traditional form- and material-oriented understanding into a process-, behavior-, and user-experience-centered model. The main objective of the study is to systematically examine the reasons for the emergence of cyber-aesthetics in industrial design, its theoretical foundations, and its aesthetic characteristics, as well as to identify the mechanisms through which this approach influences the design process. Within the scope of the research, the core components of cyber-aesthetics—adaptivity, interactivity, information visualization, and behavioral aesthetics—are interpreted from a theoretical perspective, and their role in shaping the aesthetic identity of industrial products is substantiated. By employing analytical and comparative methods, structural and conceptual differences between classical industrial design aesthetics and contemporary cyber-aesthetic approaches are identified. The analysis demonstrates that cyber-aesthetics in contemporary industrial design represents not merely a visual expression of technological innovation, but a new paradigm reflecting a fundamental transformation in design thinking, aesthetic criteria, and decision-making mechanisms. The article also evaluates, at a theoretical level, the influence of artificial intelligence and generative design systems on the formation of aesthetic decisions and explains the transformation of the designer’s role from a form-creator to an architect of aesthetic systems. The findings highlight the significance of cyber-aesthetics both as a theoretical framework and as an applicable aesthetic model in professional design practice, and provide a methodological basis for future research in this field.
