Abstract
This article examines the impact of foreign language learning on the formation of personal identity, patterns of thought and the expansion of an individual’s life opportunities. It explores the cognitive, psychological and sociocultural aspects of bilingualism and multilingualism. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between language and thinking, as well as the role of languages in the development of intercultural communication and professional mobility. Based on an analysis of academic sources, it has been found that proficiency in several languages contributes to the development of cognitive flexibility, the formation of a multi-layered identity and increased competitiveness in the context of globalization.
